  Per Florida Statute 1002.20, students in Sarasota County schools are now permitted to possess and use a topical sunscreen product while on school property or at a school-sponsored event or activity without a physician’s note, prescription or parent permission if the product is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for over-the-counter use to limit ultraviolet light-induced skin damage.  Suncreen in the form of lotion would be best.

 Section 1003.455, Florida Statutes, regarding required recess time for elementary students. Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, students in grades K-5 are required to receive 100 minutes of unstructured, free-play recess each week so that there is a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes each day.

  Per the Southside Elementary School handbook, Home Baked Items: "The Health Department has determined that foods prepared in a private home shall not be used, sold, or offered to students or staff. Any food items to be shared with students or staff must be commercially prepared and packaged with all ingredients listed on the label." Please do not allow any items, food or drink, be given to students that is not commercially prepared.
